Coming Home is an optional two-sided quilt that represents family always being connected (front of quilt), though perhaps far apart, but coming together as one (back of quilt) when we can.
Log Cabin blocks have been a staple of quilters for hundreds of years. Traditional Log Cabin quilts adorn many homes. “Coming Home” is a modern version of the traditional block. This quick, easy pattern deconstructs the traditional Log Cabin block. Inspired by our families coming home and reconnecting during the holidays each year, “Coming Home” is easily adapted for Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Christmas, Thanksgiving, … virtually any holiday.
Our hidden meaning:
Actual Log Cabins create a vision of small, cozy spaces with warmth from the hearth. It is easy to picture family gathered around the fire. We recognize that families are the heart of the holidays, and we reconnect through stories, food and traditions that are passed down to the next generation, much as quilts are passed down. This pattern celebrates the fact that families move apart but are always connected. There’s nothing better than coming together…coming home for the holidays.
